Kodak Gold 200 // Mamiya rb67 // Upstate, bk bridge & kirby

Just got my 3rd of 5 rolls of Kodak Gold back from the lab. Overall I’m pretty happy with this roll. It does have some duds on it so that’s annoying, but overall there’s some solid images. Lets get to them.

Kirby!!

This is probably my favorite on the roll. I love when I can get a nice clear image of my cats. It’s typically easier with 35mm. On medium format, it’s trickier because of the bulky nature of the camera and the inversion of the waist-level viewfinder, etc. Cats are probably some of the easiest animals to photograph sometimes since they spend so much of their time lounging around in beams of sunlight. I also love the leading lines of the mirror leading your eye down to Kirby’s face. Just an overal appealing photo to me

Brooklyn Bridge

Overall, I don’t mind this photo. I think the colors are great but I’m just not too thrilled with the composition. The information is there/plenty of room in the highlights and the shadows. I am glad I included the railing in the photo, it does add some nice dimension.

These are two photos I took of this silo that I always pass by when I go to Harlie’s mom’s house. I’ve photographed it before but this was my chance to get it on medium format. I took the photo once and then for some reason was like, “I better take a second one, just in case.” While I guess I’m glad I did, these photos are virtually interchangeable, save for the strange color casts on each one which might just be from the lab. I’m not sure which one I prefer. It was incredibly, INCREDIBLY foggy up there that morning which adds a bit of moody mystery in the image that I do prefer over just having a regular old sky.

Sleeping Cat

Passed by this lil guy on my walk home. One of the challenges with shooting on such a wide lens is that for shots like this I can’t get as close as I would have liked, because there was a gate between us (on top of me not wanting to startle the cat). So, what ends up happening is that I had to crop this image quite a bit to get the composition that I actually liked. Anyway, its fine, but I wish the cat was larger within the frame.

Abandoned House, Back

Along with the silo, this house is another thing I constantly see when I go to Harlie’s mom’s house. Its always a bit intense when I photograph it because of where its situated and the fact that it’s private property, but on this day with the HEAVY fog, I needed to get this photo. It was very run and gun so my exposure could be a bit better but here we have it.

Abandoned House, Front

Here’s the other side where we can see more of that dense fog in the background. It’s fine. Don’t love the composition, but I dig the colors.

I’ve got one more shot roll of Gold 200 to get developed and scanned and one roll that I haven’t shot yet. I’m hoping to use the last roll for a portrait session with someone pretty soon. I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of shooting the RB67 and just medium format in general. Definitely think I need to get my own medium format camera this year, I’ve got my heart set on a Rolleiflex or equivalent TLR. Fingers crossed with that one.

See you next time.
